At East Doncaster Secondary College, we believe assessment is essential for supporting student learning and achievement.
Assessment at EDSC is ongoing, varied, and purposeful. It includes both formative and summative tasks designed to support learning and inform teaching.
Formative assessment occurs during the learning process and includes techniques such as questioning, low-stakes quizzes, peer and self-assessment, and student-teacher conferencing. These strategies help students and their teachers identify strengths and areas for improvement.
At EDSC, we are committed to communicating learning progress clearly and consistently to students and families. Through continuous online reporting via Compass, families can access regular feedback on assessment tasks and track student achievement throughout the semester.
Progress is also captured through our progressive reporting. We report to families six times a year. These reports provide insight into how students have performed academically, as well as their attitude and effort, offering a clear snapshot of how each student is tracking over time. It is important to note that these reports reflect student achievement at a single point in time and may reflect their performance on a range of tasks, including formative assessments. In class, teachers provide students with feedback on their learning and provide strategies to help them improve.
Formal semester reports are published twice a year for Year 7 – 10 students and provide a comprehensive summary of student achievement against Victorian Curriculum standards.
Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences are held twice a year and provide an opportunity for teachers and parents to discuss student progress. These conversations strengthen the partnership between school and home and encourage students to take ownership of their learning journey.
