The careers program at East Doncaster Secondary College is designed to guide and support students as they explore future pathways, develop career plans, and prepare for life beyond secondary school.
Work experience
In Year 10, all students participate in a one-week work experience program. This valuable opportunity allows students to gain hands-on experience in a field of their choice, offering insight into potential career paths and workplace expectations.
Career Action Plans
In Year 10, students complete Career Action Plans. This essential tool helps students focus on their goals and map out plans for the future, whether related to school, work, or careers. The plan outlines:
- Goals and steps to achieve them.
- Alternative plans as aspirations change
- Exploration of different pathways into senior school, including subjects and programs that prepare students for post-Year 12 courses and careers.
Students begin by listing careers of interest and the courses or pre-requisite subjects needed to pursue them, helping them make informed decisions about their senior school journey.
Course Counselling
At East Doncaster Secondary College, we offer Course Counselling as part of our comprehensive pathways program. Every student in Years 9, 10, and 11 participates in a personal interview with a member of the College leadership team. This one-on-one session helps students make informed decisions about their subject selections, explore their future pathways in VCE, and consider options beyond Year 12.
Through Course Counselling, we ensure that students are well-prepared to pursue their career goals, with a clear understanding of the courses and prerequisites needed for their chosen pathways.
Morrisby
Students have access to Morrisby, a personalised career diagnostic tool that helps identify strengths, interests, and suitable career options. This one-on-one consultation with a career professional provides tailored advice to support informed decision-making about future pathways.
Vocational Education Training (VET)
East Doncaster Secondary College offers a wide range of high-quality VET programs. These are delivered in partnership with neighbouring TAFE Institutes, local schools, and employment providers, giving students practical, career-focused education that leads directly to employment or further study.
Careers Office
Our dedicated Careers Office is a welcoming space where students can access up-to-date information on pathways, courses, and career opportunities. The office is staffed by a full-time careers advisor, available to guide students through decisions and provide ongoing support throughout their school journey.
