EDSC – Takes the Plunge for FightMND

EDSC proudly joined the fight against Motor neurone disease (MND) this year by hosting our own Big Freeze fundraising event on Tuesday 23 June. Through a combination of fundraising activities and community support the event was an outstanding success, raising $7267.60 for FightMND. The generosity of our school community helped us surpass our original $5000 fundraising goal, with all proceeds going directly towards vital MND research and support services.

One of the day’s highlights was the Ice Bucket Challenge, where our courageous volunteers: Ms Arkan, Mr Lau, Lina – 9B, Atrisa – 7E, Lola – 12V and Mr Campbell braved the freezing water for a great cause. Jordan – 12C was unable to take part due to competing in interschool sport, each volunteer shared a powerful personal reflection on why this day and its cause were so important to them.

We were honoured to welcome guest speakers Ayman, Raelene and Trisha from MND. Ayman shared his insights into the challenges faced by those living with motor neurone disease, reminding us all of the importance of supporting research, advocacy efforts and reinforcing the difference our fundraising can make.

Our free dress students generously donated their gold coins to participate. Thanks go to the following students who helped with various aspects of the event ranging from the planning of the Ice Bucket challenge, selling of raffle tickets and merchandise and on event day: Badie – 12, Lina – 9, Yixin – 10, Myrah – 8, Chloe – 9, Aaryan – 9, Dev – 9, Zara – 8, Taylor – 12, Harris – 12, Lincoln – 9, Rio – 9, Salma – 12, Sangya – 10, Rhylan – 11, Chloe – 10 and Xavier – 12. A big thank you to Ms James for organising the event, selling raffle tickets and merchandise. A shout out to Mrs Kinsman who gave up her lunchtimes to provide card payments for staff and students.

Raffle Prize winners

We thank Rotary Club for putting on a tasty barbecue, which proved popular for all wanting a special lunch time bite, contributing significantly to our fundraising total.

Combined with donations received through our official FightMND fundraising page, merchandise sales and raffle ticket purchases, the event demonstrated the incredible generosity and community spirit of East Doncaster Secondary College.

A sincere thank you goes to all students, staff, families, and community members who donated, purchased merchandise, volunteered their time, attended the event or participated in the Ice Bucket Challenge. We are incredibly proud of the compassion, enthusiasm, and commitment shown by our school community and thank everyone who helped make the event such a meaningful and successful fundraiser.

Together, we have made a real difference in the fight against motor neurone disease.
